Call for Solo Show Proposals - 2025 Season

Salem Arts Association is offering four solo exhibitions in 2025, and is inviting member artists to submit applications. 

The submission deadline is Monday April 28, 2025, and artists will be notified on or before May 2, 2025 of the jurying committee’s decisions.

In order to be eligible, your Salem Arts Association membership must be current when you apply, and must remain active through your chosen exhibition dates. Submitting artists will select options for the following dates: (Exhibition committee will make final date assignment)

  1. May 24 to June 28, 2025 (reception date Friday May 30, 2025 from 6-8 PM)
  2. July 4 to August 2, 2025 (reception date Friday July 11, 2025 from 6-8 PM)
  3. August 9 to September 6, 2025 (reception date Friday August 8, 2025 from 6-8 PM)
  4. November 6, 2025 to December 14, 2025 (reception date Friday, November 15, 2024 from 6 - 8 PM)

Applications will be juried by members of the Salem Arts Association Exhibitions Committee. Exhibition committee will make final date and gallery assignments.

Small group shows (two or more people) are permitted.  In this case, please submit only one application and indicate clearly in your proposal every person that will take part in the show.  All artists that take part in a show must be Salem Arts Association members.

Artists must submit their information and application using the online registration form (NOTE: You must be signed in to the Salem Arts Association website, using your Salem Arts Association password, to complete this registration), and include the following:

  1. Images of the work to be juried: 

    1. Provide a minimum of five and a maximum of 10 images of your current work.  Images must use the following file name format: the artist's first initial, last name, and the file number (e.g., jdoe-1.jpg).

    2. Artwork depicted in the images should be recently produced, with the majority of pieces not having been previously exhibited at Salem Arts Association galleries. 

    3. Submitted images must be representative of the quality, medium, and content to be exhibited. 

  2. The exhibition will be awarded based on the work that is submitted. It is expected that the artist will include some, if not all of the submitted work in the exhibit. Additional artwork mat be added to teh exhibition upon review by the exhibition committee representative. 

  3. The majority of the artwork should be for sale; Salem Arts Association encourages gallery sales and receives a 35% commission on all sales.  

  4. Provide the following information with your submission:

    1. Resume/Vitae containing your background, contact information, email address, phone, and website.

    2. A written description of your proposed exhibition, theme, content, and any special requirements for display.

    3. The estimated number of pieces and the approximate sizes of each for this show.

Incomplete submissions will not be considered.


APPLICATION FORM


If your exhibition proposal is accepted:

  1. The artist will remit a fee of $100.00 which will be used to offset the costs of exhibition and promotions.

  2. The exhibition will be held at Salem Arts Association one of four galleries.

  • Pickering Wharf Gallery (2nd floor rear, 14x16)
  • Hawke's Wharf Gallery (2nd floor front right side, 12x16)
  • Tucker's Wharf Gallery (2nd floor right side, 9x12)
  • Friendship Gallery (1st floor front right, 8x12).
  1. The exhibition will be installed the week prior to the opening day. Installation times may be negotiated with the gallery chairperson. 

  2. All exhibition artwork must be removed from the gallery on the last Sunday of the exhibition period.

  3. The artist will be present during the exhibition reception during their solo exhibit.

  4. The artist is expected to host a workshop or gallery talk event in the gallery during the exhibition. The date for this event should be planned with the gallery chairperson.

  5. Salem Arts Association will promote the exhibition on our website and social media, and will print a limited number of exhibit posters. Publicity graphic design will be a collaborative effort with the exhibiting artist and Salem Arts Association.
