Salem Arts Creates Fashion Artist: Laurel Driskill Photography by James Bostick Growing up on an Oklahoma farm, I excelled in art and was nationally recognized for my paintings. My love for music, writing, and fashion led me to explore many creative paths. In Germany, I rediscovered fashion design. Later, I earned my BFA in painting at Montserrat and built an online audience. Being diagnosed with ADHD and Autism gave me clarity and inspired me to embrace my truth and creative passions. | Salem Arts Creates Glassblowing Artist: Ellen Garvey Photography by Bobbie Bush Stepping into a glassblowing class gave me a welcome escape from my fast-paced tech career. I was instantly captivated by the medium and now devote my time to the studio, experimenting with vibrant forms, colors, and techniques. The creative possibilities in glassblowing feel limitless, and each day brings new excitement and challenges as I continue to learn and grow. | Salem Arts Creates Assemblage Art Artist: Zenovia Limberakis Photography by James Bostick I create assemblages inspired by my Greek Orthodox grandmothers' home altars and the psychedelic glue art of the 1960s. Using objects like vintage spoons, broken mirror, and jewels, I transform everyday things into radiant shrines that celebrate the extraordinary in the ordinary. My work is meant to be a focal point for reflection, prayer, and gratitude, inviting joy, light, and a sense of wonder into daily life. |
Salem Arts Creates Landscapes Artist: Katherine Miura Photography by James Bostick Painting drew me in as a child, but I paused to pursue medical school. Moving to Swampscott reignited my passion—now I paint seascapes, landscapes from my travels, and family pets. Years later, creative friends inspired me to pick up the brush again, and Plein Air painting gets me outdoors, by the water. I even have a few old jackets painted with album covers from my rock and roll days. It feels good to return to art. @Katherine.Miura | Salem Arts Creates Drawings Artist: Jessica Murdock Photography by Bobbie Bush A graduate of the Museum School in Boston, I’ve spent two decades in Salem creating art under a towering tree by the North River. My journey began at Norwich Free Academy, where I explored portraiture, painting, woodworking, and fibercrafts. I completed a five-year Drawing a Day Project, design tattoos, participate in local figure drawing, paint murals, restore my antique house, and run an Etsy shop, all while caring for rescue pets and seeking new creative challenges. @jsmurdock.art | Salem Arts Creates Furniture Artist: Mike Podmaniczky Photography by James Bostick I began as a craftsman—model maker, boat builder, foundry pattern maker, and always a furniture maker. My journey led to museum work, with over 25 years as a conservator. After training at the Smithsonian and Winterthur, I taught conservation in the UK and now run my own studio in Salem, MA, specializing in period and contemporary objects, and taking on custom commissions. | Salem Arts Creates Ceramics Artist: Maris Prost Photography by Bobbie Bush I grew up in old Newburyport, started a pottery business inspired by artists and entrepreneurs in my family, and taught myself the craft with annual trips to Maryland. Later, I studied color and design and expanded my business across several states. After a career in education and technology, I’m now retired and focus on creating unique clay pieces, painting, and sculpture, drawing from my life, travels, and constant curiosity. |
Salem Arts Creates Pigment Painting Artist: Craig Robertson Photography by Bobbie Bush As a Boston-based oil painter and scratchboard artist, I bring over 50 years of creative exploration to my craft. Mostly self-taught, I experiment with figurative painting, shape, movement, and color. My studio experience includes oil, encaustic, tempera, watercolor, acrylic, sculpture, digital drawing, and printmaking. I strive to push boundaries and infuse each piece with energy and discovery. | Salem Arts Creates Feminist Painting Artist: Erin Survilas Photography by James Bostick As a feminist oil painter, my work centers on the human figure, blending contemporary perspectives with historical influences. I delve into themes such as self-care, mental health, womanhood, and body neutrality. By using materials traditionally associated with femininity, I invite viewers to gently reconsider their perceptions of their own bodies and to embrace acceptance. My paintings aim to spark dialogue about identity and celebrate the diverse experiences of women through art. | Salem Arts Creates Painting Artist: Annette Sykes Photography by Bobbie Bush Painting by the ocean has become my daily inspiration. Living by the water since 2012, I’m drawn outside by the ever-changing colors and textures of the sky and sea. I use oil paints on canvases of all sizes, relishing in plein air sessions or in my studio. Organizing local paint outs and figure drawing groups connects me with community and nature, bringing me peace, joy, and a sense of renewal with every brushstroke. |
